How to Get More YouTube Subscribers: 10+ Tasks to do Today
Having built nearly 27,000 subscribers on YouTube, the biggest lesson we have learnt over the years, is to focus on a niche and be consistent with uploading videos. If you want viral success quickly, it’s not going to happen; head to TikTok, where you are more likely to achieve this goal.
Do you have these personality traits?
There are a few must-have personality traits when it comes to building an audience on YouTube. You need to be passionate about the niche you are focusing your videos on; this ensures that you consistently upload videos to the platform. You need to be patient; while you might hear about a few people who have success quickly, it’s scarce.
So, the information you have come here for. In this article, we are focusing on how to get more YouTube subscribers.
Focus on a niche
We’ve mentioned this in the first sentence, but it’s an important step. A YouTube channel with videos on different topics will result in a fragmented audience that is inactive when you create videos on topics they are not interested in.
This affects the algorithm because you want as many subscribers as possible to watch your content within the first 24 hours.
Keeping to a specific topic will ensure that your subscribers are continuously engaged and watching your videos.
Spend time on your thumbnails
Most viewers will come from suggested videos, so your thumbnails must be eye-catching. YouTube experts suggest that a face on a thumbnail will increase the click-through rate, but this depends a lot on the niche. Bright colours and bold fonts are also good ways to attract people to your video.
Use a tool like Canva to create attractive, professional-looking designs with many templates for YouTube creators. We recommend Canva Pro as regular users over the past year and a half.
Spend time on your thumbnail, and while the pre-selected ones that are generated by YouTube will be the best shots from your video, we recommend adding text and other graphics to help it stand out.
Eye-catching titles
Video titles are tricky, significantly when growing your audience on YouTube. They have to be attractive to click on but also search-friendly. Use a tool like TubeBuddy to discover a keyword that attracts searches but isn’t too competitive, and then come up with a title that is going to get clicks.
How to make Sourdough is a popular search term, but you want to catch people’s attention with your title. So, you’ve created a video on how to make Sourdough for a pizza. The title could be How to make Sourdough for the best pizza or How to make the Ultimate Sourdough for Crazy Delicious Pizza. It’s time to get creative with your titles.
Watch time should be a focus
To perform well in the YouTube algorithm, you need to keep viewers watching your videos for as long as possible. This works in different ways: the video will be suggested more if your viewers are watching the video for longer, so you need to keep your audience engaged and interested.
It’s infrequent that people will watch the video all the way through, but if you can keep them engaged for 60-70% of the video, that’s good. On another side, it’s why videos that are 10 minutes plus do better than shorter ones.
That said, you should not create a 10-minute video if what you need to share can be created in a 4-5 minute video. You should include a playlist as a card or end screen call to action so your audience continues consuming your other videos and increasing watch time on your channel.
The focus should be to keep your viewers engaged for as long as possible.
Additional practical tasks to do
While these tasks will not get you, new subscribers, they will help increase the chances of someone becoming interested in your channel:
- The header graphic on your YouTube channel needs to tell the visitor what your channel is about within seconds.
- Make sure you write a few paragraphs in the about channel section within the Studio dashboard so that people can learn more about you.
- Use Playlists to group together videos and include them on the channel homepage so visitors can quickly consume more of your content.
Engage with your audience
When any viewers leave a comment on a video, make sure that you respond. Remember, everyone has an opinion, and trolls frequent the comment sections too, but where you can always spend time engaging with your audience, especially when you are first starting to build your audience.
If your audience knows you are going to jump in and respond, they will engage more. Of course, as your channel gets more prominent, this will be harder to do, and you won’t be able to respond to everyone.
Collaborate with channels within your niche
One of the best ways to grow your YouTube subscribers is to collaborate with other video creators within your niche. Ideally, your target audience needs to be the same or are interested in the type of content you create.
Otherwise, you will end up with inactive subscribers, and that will not help your videos get suggested and continue to grow your audience.
Build an audience outside of YouTube
Find a way to engage with your audience outside of YouTube and your videos.
Depending on your favourite social network, you can create a profile and start conversations with your audience. These followers are much more likely to share your videos and help you grow your subscribers.
