5 Ways to Grow your Audience with Content Creation
Optimized content will help grow your audience. Most content creators make mistakes by focusing all their time on creating content but not promoting it in places where their target audience is active.
Growing an audience from a blog takes time.
At Creator Trail, we have a 3-step process with content: create, optimize, and distribute; it does not matter if you are filming a video, recording a podcast or writing an article; these 3 steps are essential to growing your audience.
Here are 5 ways to grow your audience with content creation.
Repurpose content
One strategy that has worked for us is repurposing our content.
Write an article – use that content as a script for a video – take the audio from the video and publish it as a podcast. Then take quotes from the article, and create graphics for social media.
Repurposing will generate more content and open doors where your target audience can find and engage with your content.
Consistency is the first priority
This advice used to annoy me. All you hear from a successful content creator is ‘be consistent, and you will grow your audience’. The problem is, they are correct. 99% of content creators fail because they do not create consistently, resulting in an unengaged audience.
Be realistic. Write 1 piece on a specific day of the week and do it consistently, every single week. Once you are consistent, focus on improving the quality of your content. Do not set out to write 5 articles a week when you know that’s not going to be sustainable.
Know where your audience is active
Growing an audience on your website takes time, so think of where your audience is the most active. Knowing where people hang out online is vital, and there are two strategies that you can implement.
- Distribute content from your website on a platform to drive your target back to it and have a CTA to get people on your email list.
- Create the content on a platform to grow an audience on it.
You might find that your audience is active on Twitter and Reddit.
Distribute content that you’ve published on your website on these platforms. If interested, people will click on the link, visit your website, and sign up for your email list. That’s the goal for our content.
With this strategy, you are growing your audience. You now have an opportunity to help people with your content, assuming you are consistently sending out an email to keep readers engaged.
YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine online, so creating videos on the platform will help you build subscribers. These people will continue to watch your content, and you can send them to your website over time.
Sit down and think of 1 or 2 places where your target audience is active, and then learn how that platform works and distribute and create content.
Research your competition
Let’s be honest here – there’s no point re-inventing the wheel.
Spending time researching your competition will help you speed up your audience growth. Look at what content on the website has received the most exposure on social media.
Create the content on the same topic but do not plagiarize. Instead, share your own thoughts, opinions, and experiences. Go into more detail, and share more advice. Make sure the content is unique and of better quality than your competition.
Go to Facebook and search for a keyword within your niche. Look through the content posted by your competitors. It is more time-consuming, but the potential to grow your audience is enormous.
Go to YouTube, and again, search a keyword term for your niche and see what videos are created and receive good views and engagement.
What could you create that would be better?
Look for trending topics
What topics are trending within your niche and industry right now? Creating content on these trends is a great way to grow an audience.
You have to act quickly to make sure you receive the most exposure. Reach out to journalists covering the topic in the media and share your thoughts and experiences. You can use Twitter, YouTube and Google Trends to discover what topics are trending right now and create content.
Another task you can do is have a content calendar and think of trends in your industry that will hit at certain times of the year. Planning ahead will mean your content is already out there.
Does this help? Hopefully, this article on 5 ways to grow your audience with content creation gives you something to think about.
